I willingly admit that at one time I was a marijuana addict. People say that you can’t be addicted to the herb, but you can. It plagues me even now when I smell it somewhere. It is a fight between my body saying “give me more” and my brain saying “you don’t need it”. I also had another vice: alcohol addiction. The two separate were tamable, but together they were unstoppable. I nearly went to jail over these two demons.

Fortunately, unlike many of my friends from that time in my life, I never had to enter a drug treatment program. I would have never been able to stay close to home if I did. I would have had to go at least as far as Michigan. My father would have known how to find me there. He used to travel all the time in that area for music. This particular program covers all the bases: alcohol addiction, drug abuse, and even after care for those who have kicked. That is the most important part. Once it’s over, you don’t want to have a relapse. The pictures of the campus there are stunning. I don’t think I would have had a problem getting clean if I could look at the beautiful water outside my window, take a walk in the expansive woodland areas, or even just to sit my room would have been joyful. The program there is all-inclusive and they even have the means to help you pay for the program so expense is not a deterrent.

I still have many who were with me in that time of my life that are still dealing with addictions. I pray that they find Stone Hawk or somewhere just like it that will help them to heal and become whole again.
